The compensating wires and strands are made of alloys. These alloys do not have to be identical when it comes to the corresponding thermocouple. Due to substitute material, thermo-electric characteristics that are in the allowed temperature range (usually 0 up to+200 °C) for the compensating cable must be the same as those of the corresponding thermocouple. The extension cables use identically structured conductors, that are similar to corresponding thermocouple. Thermocouples are identified by the letter C, that appears behind the code letter and letter X is what identifies the extension cable. This will appear behind the code letter that identifies the thermocouple. These are normally tested within a temperature range of 0 up to +200 °C.
